If you're looking to replace the timing chain in your Ford Max S, look no further! In this video, we reveal the ultimate tutorial on Ford S Max timing chain replacement that will save you time and money. Watch now to learn the insider secrets and expert tips for a successful replacement process.
Replacing the timing chain on a Ford S Max (likely referring to the Ford C-Max) is a complex task that requires mechanical expertise and the right tools. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you perform this task as a pro:
⚙️🛑 Tools and Materials Needed:
♦ Socket set and wrenches
♦ Screwdrivers
♦ Torque wrench
♦ Engine hoist or support bar
♦ Timing chain kit (including chain, guides, tensioners, and sprockets)
♦ Gasket set
♦ Sealant
♦ Engine oil
♦ Coolant
♦ Drain pan
♦ Rags
♦ Repair manual specific to your vehicle for torque specifications and diagrams
🟢 Step-by-Step Guide:
⭕ Preparation:
• Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
• Disconnect the negative battery cable.
• Drain the engine oil and coolant into appropriate containers.
• Remove the front wheels and any necessary splash guards to access the engine.
⭕ Engine Access:
• Remove the serpentine belt by releasing the tensioner.
• Remove the engine cover, if applicable.
• Remove any components blocking access to the timing cover, such as the alternator, power steering pump, and air conditioning compressor. You may need to support these components with a rope or bungee cord to avoid disconnecting the lines.
• Support the engine with an engine hoist or support bar to relieve the weight off the motor mounts.
⭕Timing Cover Removal:
• Remove the valve cover to expose the top of the timing chain.
• Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt and pulley. This might require a special tool to hold the crankshaft in place.
• Remove the timing cover bolts and carefully pry off the timing cover. Be prepared for any remaining oil or coolant to leak out.
⭕Timing Chain Removal:
• Rotate the crankshaft to align the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets. Refer to your vehicle's repair manual for the exact alignment procedure.
• Remove the timing chain tensioner and guides.
• Remove the timing chain and sprockets.
⭕Installing the New Timing Chain:
• Install the new sprockets on the crankshaft and camshaft, ensuring the timing marks are correctly aligned.
• Install the new timing chain, ensuring it is properly seated on the sprockets.
• Install the new guides and tensioner. Ensure the tensioner is properly primed and tensioned according to the manufacturer's specifications.
• Rotate the crankshaft by hand two full rotations and recheck the timing marks to ensure they are still aligned.
⭕Reassembly:
• Clean the timing cover and engine surfaces of any old gasket material.
• Apply a thin layer of sealant to the timing cover gasket surfaces.
• Install the new gasket and reattach the timing cover.
• Reinstall the crankshaft pulley and bolt, tightening to the specified torque.
• Reinstall the valve cover with a new gasket.
• Reinstall any components removed to access the timing cover, such as the alternator, power steering pump, and air conditioning compressor.
⭕Finishing Up:
• Refill the engine with fresh oil and coolant.
• Reconnect the negative battery cable.
• Start the engine and check for any leaks or unusual noises.
• Reinstall any remaining components, such as the serpentine belt and splash guards.
• Lower the vehicle and perform a final check to ensure everything is properly installed and functioning.
⭕Tips:
• Take pictures during disassembly to help with reassembly.
• Double-check all torque specifications and timing marks according to your vehicle's repair manual.
• Consider replacing the water pump and other components while you have access to them, as preventative maintenance.
• If you are not confident in performing this task, it is recommended to seek the assistance of a professional mechanic.

    Top up the cooling with water ?

    • @sanumotorswithcharlie
      @sanumotorswithcharlie 8 годин тому

      Topping up the cooling system with water can be a temporary solution, but it's not ideal for long-term use. Here's a step-by-step guide to topping up the cooling system with water: ### Steps to Top Up the Cooling System with Water: 1. **Ensure Safety**: - Make sure the engine is cool before opening the radiator cap. Opening it when the engine is hot can cause hot coolant to spray out and cause burns. 2. **Locate the Radiator Cap**: - Open the hood and locate the radiator cap. The radiator is typically located at the front of the engine bay. 3. **Check Coolant Level**: - Look at the coolant reservoir to check the current level. The reservoir should have markings indicating the minimum and maximum levels. 4. **Add Water**: - Slowly add water to the radiator or coolant reservoir. Pour the water until it reaches the desired level, but do not overfill. 5. **Check for Leaks**: - Inspect the cooling system for any signs of leaks. If you notice any, it's important to get them repaired as soon as possible. 6. **Replace the Cap**: - Once the water has been added, securely replace the radiator cap. ### Considerations: - **Temporary Solution**: Using water alone should be a temporary measure. It’s important to use a proper coolant mix (usually a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze) for optimal cooling and to prevent corrosion and freezing. - **Antifreeze**: Antifreeze contains additives that prevent rust and lower the freezing point of the coolant. This is particularly important in colder climates. - **Flush and Refill**: If you’ve used water in an emergency, plan to flush and refill the cooling system with the proper coolant mix as soon as possible. - **Monitor Temperature**: Keep an eye on your vehicle’s temperature gauge. If it starts to overheat again, you might need to seek professional assistance. If you have specific issues with your cooling system or need more detailed guidance, please let me know!

    Charlie, is that a 3-Tonne jack? I have a 2-Tonne jack, and it couldn’t even get the wheels of a 2010 Nissan Qashqai off the ground.

    • @sanumotorswithcharlie
      @sanumotorswithcharlie 8 годин тому

      It's possible that the 2-tonne jack you have might not be sufficient for lifting the Nissan Qashqai, depending on how you are using it and where you are placing it under the vehicle. Here are a few points to consider: ### Lifting Capacity - **2-Tonne Jack**: This jack can lift up to 2000 kg. While this should theoretically be enough for a Nissan Qashqai, the effectiveness also depends on the distribution of weight and how the jack is used. - **3-Tonne Jack**: This jack has a lifting capacity of 3000 kg, providing a higher margin of safety and might be more suitable for larger vehicles like SUVs. ### Vehicle Weight - **Nissan Qashqai**: The 2010 model has a curb weight ranging from approximately 1300 to 1600 kg depending on the specific model and trim. ### Tips for Effective Jacking 1. **Proper Placement**: Ensure that the jack is placed at the recommended jacking points on the vehicle. These are usually reinforced areas designed to handle the weight. 2. **Surface**: Use the jack on a solid, level surface to ensure stability and prevent sinking or slipping. 3. **Inspect the Jack**: Make sure the jack is in good working condition. A malfunctioning jack might not lift as expected. ### Upgrading to a 3-Tonne Jack If your 2-tonne jack is struggling or if you feel safer with a higher capacity, upgrading to a 3-tonne jack could be a good idea. It will provide more stability and ease when lifting heavier vehicles. If you are uncertain about the jacking process or the equipment, consider consulting the vehicle's manual or seeking assistance from a professional.

      I tried to do the regen but i get a error from the def injector after I replace the injector what’s next.?

    • @sanumotorswithcharlie
      @sanumotorswithcharlie 8 годин тому

      When dealing with a "Additive System Fault 5 mph" error message and issues with the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) injector on a 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, there are several steps you can take after replacing the injector: 1. **Check for Fault Codes:** - Use an OBD-II scanner to check for any remaining fault codes. These codes can provide specific information about what might still be wrong with the system. 2. **Perform a Manual Regeneration:** - If the DEF injector has been replaced, you might need to perform another manual regeneration to clear the system. Make sure the vehicle is in a safe location for this process, as it can take some time and requires the engine to be running. 3. **Check DEF Quality and Quantity:** - Ensure that the DEF in the tank is of good quality and is at the appropriate level. Contaminated or low DEF can cause issues. 4. **Inspect DEF System Components:** - Check other components of the DEF system, such as the DEF pump, NOx sensors, and lines for any signs of damage or blockage. 5. **Reset the System:** - After replacing the injector and ensuring everything else is in order, you may need to reset the system using diagnostic tools. This can often clear any stored error messages and allow the vehicle to recognize the new part. 6. **Software Updates:** - Check if there are any software updates available for the vehicle’s ECU (Engine Control Unit). Sometimes, manufacturers release updates to improve system performance or address known issues. 7. **Professional Diagnosis:** - If the issue persists, it may be best to consult a professional mechanic or a dealership. They have specialized diagnostic tools and expertise specific to Mercedes-Benz vehicles and can provide a more in-depth analysis. 8. **Test Drive:** - After performing the above steps, take the vehicle for a test drive to ensure that the error message does not reappear and that the vehicle operates normally. Taking these steps should help you address and resolve the additive system fault. If you encounter specific error codes during this process, providing those can help in diagnosing further issues.

    My fiesta tdci diesel turbo has a stiff gear change and my clutch is on it's way out as well but I'm in the process of getting a new clutch for it

    • @sanumotorswithcharlie
      @sanumotorswithcharlie 4 дні тому

      It sounds like you have a couple of issues with your Fiesta TDCi diesel turbo: a stiff gear change and a failing clutch. Here are some steps and tips that might help you address these issues: 1. **Stiff Gear Change:** - **Check Transmission Fluid:** Low or old transmission fluid can cause stiff gear changes. Make sure the transmission fluid is at the correct level and in good condition. - **Inspect Gear Linkage:** The gear linkage may need lubrication or adjustment. Over time, the linkage can become dry or misaligned, leading to stiff gear changes. - **Examine Clutch Hydraulics:** Since you mentioned the clutch is on its way out, the hydraulic components (master and slave cylinders) should be checked. These can affect gear changes if they are not functioning properly. - **Shift Cables:** In some cases, shift cables can become stretched or worn out, leading to difficulty in changing gears. Inspect and replace if necessary. 2. **Clutch Replacement:** - **Timely Replacement:** Since you're in the process of getting a new clutch, ensure it is replaced as soon as possible. Driving with a failing clutch can cause further damage to the transmission. - **Clutch Kit:** When replacing the clutch, consider getting a complete clutch kit, which includes the clutch disc, pressure plate, and release bearing. This ensures all related components are new and working together properly. - **Flywheel Inspection:** Have the flywheel inspected when the clutch is replaced. If it's damaged or worn, it may need resurfacing or replacement. - **Hydraulic System:** Bleed the clutch hydraulic system to remove any air bubbles, which can affect clutch operation and gear changes. 3. **General Maintenance:** - **Regular Service:** Ensure regular maintenance of your vehicle, including checking and changing fluids, inspecting the transmission, and keeping the clutch system in good condition. - **Driving Habits:** Avoid aggressive driving and unnecessary strain on the clutch and transmission to extend their lifespan. By addressing both the stiff gear change and the clutch issue simultaneously, you can improve your car's performance and prevent further damage. If you're not comfortable performing these checks and repairs yourself, it may be beneficial to consult a professional mechanic.

      In a Nissan Micra 2014, the water (coolant) for the air conditioning system is not typically added directly to the air conditioning system itself. Instead, the vehicle uses a refrigerant (commonly R134a) for the air conditioning system. However, the coolant for the engine, which helps regulate the engine temperature and can impact the air conditioning efficiency, is added to the radiator. Here’s how to add coolant to your Nissan Micra 2014: 1. **Locate the Radiator and Coolant Reservoir:** - Open the hood of your car. - Find the radiator, which is usually located at the front of the engine compartment. - Locate the coolant reservoir, a translucent plastic container with a cap, often marked with a symbol or labeled as "coolant." 2. **Check Coolant Levels:** - Ensure the engine is cool before checking the coolant level. - Look at the markings on the side of the coolant reservoir to see if the coolant is below the "MIN" line. 3. **Add Coolant:** - If the coolant level is low, remove the cap from the coolant reservoir. - Add a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze (coolant) to the reservoir until it reaches the "MAX" line. - Replace the cap securely. 4. **Check for Leaks:** - After adding coolant, check for any leaks under the car. For the actual air conditioning system, if you are experiencing issues such as warm air coming from the vents, you might need to have the refrigerant checked and refilled by a professional. This requires specific equipment and refrigerant handling knowledge. If you are unsure or uncomfortable performing these tasks, it is always best to consult a professional mechanic.

      To test the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor for air mass temperature problems on a Land Rover 3.0 SDV6 / TDV6, you can follow these steps. This guide assumes you have a basic understanding of automotive diagnostics and access to necessary tools. ### Tools and Materials Needed 1. OBD-II scanner 2. Multimeter 3. Screwdrivers and pliers 4. Cleaning solution (if necessary) 5. Protective gloves ### Steps to Test the MAF Sensor #### 1. **Locate the MAF Sensor** - The MAF sensor is typically located between the air filter box and the throttle body. - Consult the vehicle’s manual if you are unsure about its exact location. #### 2. **Inspect the Sensor** - Before testing, visually inspect the MAF sensor and its wiring for any obvious signs of damage, such as cracks, loose connections, or corrosion. - Make sure the air filter is clean and properly installed. #### 3. **Check for OBD-II Codes** - Connect an OBD-II scanner to the diagnostic port under the dashboard. - Check for any error codes related to the MAF sensor or air intake system. - Common codes include P0100 to P0104, which indicate MAF sensor issues. #### 4. **Testing the MAF Sensor Voltage** - Disconnect the MAF sensor connector. - Set your multimeter to measure voltage (DC). - Reconnect the sensor connector but back probe the connector so you can read the voltage without disconnecting it completely. - With the engine running, measure the voltage between the signal wire (usually colored wire, but refer to the vehicle's wiring diagram) and the ground wire. - A typical good MAF sensor should read between 0.5V to 1.0V at idle and increase with engine speed. - If the voltage is out of this range, the sensor might be faulty. #### 5. **Testing the Air Temperature Sensor (if integrated)** - Many MAF sensors also measure the intake air temperature. - Locate the temperature sensor pins (refer to the vehicle’s service manual). - Set your multimeter to measure resistance (Ohms). - Disconnect the MAF sensor and measure the resistance between the air temperature sensor pins. - Compare the resistance reading to the specifications provided in the service manual. - The resistance should change with temperature; if it doesn't, the sensor may be faulty. #### 6. **Cleaning the MAF Sensor** - If the MAF sensor appears dirty, you can try cleaning it with a specialized MAF sensor cleaner. - Remove the MAF sensor from the air intake assembly. - Spray the cleaner onto the sensor element, being careful not to touch it with your fingers or any tools. - Let the sensor dry completely before reinstalling. #### 7. **Recheck Performance** - After cleaning or replacing the MAF sensor, clear any error codes using the OBD-II scanner. - Start the vehicle and check for any returning codes or abnormal performance. - Take the vehicle for a test drive to ensure that it operates smoothly. ### Additional Tips - Ensure that the engine is cool before starting the inspection to avoid burns. - Use the correct tools to avoid damaging the sensor or its wiring. - If you replace the MAF sensor, use a high-quality part to ensure reliability. By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and potentially resolve issues related to the MAF sensor and air mass temperature readings in your Land Rover 3.0 SDV6 / TDV6. If the problem persists, further diagnostic work may be required, possibly involving more advanced tools or professional assistance.

    I'm having soooo much more trouble than you appear to have had, putting the bold back into the spindle, after getting the ball joint back in. I was about to pull the ball joint back out, to put the bolt in first, part way. The bold appears to have a concave groove between the top of the threads and the non-threaded long neck. I messed up the threads on the original bolt trying to install it. The bolt spun and the threads got rounded and flattened on the final quarter inch of the bolt's bottom. Did you pry the two halves apart at all? When I have the ball joint in, and look down through the hole that the bold will need to go through, I do see an ever-so-slight protrusion coming from off to one side of the sleeve. The protrusion seen is just a sliver of the edge of the collar from the ball joint bolt........................................................................ Any suggestions?

      Replacing and installing the control arm and ball joint on a Nissan Juke can indeed be a tricky task, especially when it comes to aligning everything properly to get the bolt back into place. Here are some steps and suggestions that might help you through this process: ### Steps to Replace and Install Control Arm and Ball Joint 1. **Preparation and Safety:** - Ensure the car is securely lifted and supported on jack stands. - Remove the wheel to access the control arm and ball joint. 2. **Removing the Old Control Arm:** - Remove any bolts or nuts securing the control arm to the frame and the spindle. - Use a ball joint separator to remove the ball joint from the spindle. - Be cautious not to damage the threads on the ball joint bolt. 3. **Installing the New Control Arm:** - Position the new control arm in place, aligning it with the frame and spindle mounting points. 4. **Inserting the Ball Joint:** - Insert the ball joint into the spindle. - Ensure the ball joint is seated properly and fully inserted. 5. **Aligning the Bolt:** - If you encounter trouble getting the bolt through the spindle and ball joint, follow these suggestions: - **Check Alignment:** Ensure the control arm, spindle, and ball joint are perfectly aligned. Misalignment can cause difficulty in getting the bolt through. - **Pry Apart Slightly:** If necessary, use a pry bar to gently pry apart the spindle and control arm to create a little more room for the bolt to go through. - **Grease the Bolt:** Apply some grease to the bolt to help it slide through more easily. - **Use a Guide:** Use a smaller alignment tool or a punch to help guide the bolt through the hole initially. Once aligned, remove the tool and insert the bolt. - **Partial Insertion:** Insert the bolt partway first before fully seating the ball joint. This can sometimes make alignment easier. 6. **Avoiding Thread Damage:** - **Inspect the Threads:** Ensure the threads on the bolt are in good condition. If the threads are damaged, replace the bolt. - **Thread the Bolt Carefully:** Hand-thread the bolt as far as possible before using any tools to avoid cross-threading. - **Avoid Over-tightening:** When tightening, do so gradually and evenly to prevent damaging the threads. ### Additional Tips: - **Torque Specifications:** Always use the correct torque specifications for the bolts to ensure they are properly secured. - **New Hardware:** Consider using new bolts and nuts if the old ones are damaged or corroded. - **Professional Help:** If you’re still having trouble, it might be worthwhile to seek help from a professional mechanic to avoid further damage or safety issues. By following these steps and suggestions, you should be able to successfully replace and install the control arm and ball joint on your Nissan Juke. If you have any specific questions or run into more issues, feel free to ask!

    I thought the spring usually lasts a lot longer than the shock absorber. Has the shock absorber been replaced before?

    • @sanumotorswithcharlie
      @sanumotorswithcharlie 13 днів тому

      Typically, shock absorbers are designed to last for a certain number of miles or years, and their lifespan can vary based on driving conditions and maintenance. It's not uncommon for shock absorbers to need replacement before springs due to their role in absorbing impacts and providing a smoother ride. Here are a few points to consider: 1. **Shock Absorber Lifespan:** Shock absorbers usually need replacement every 50,000 to 100,000 miles. Factors such as driving on rough roads, carrying heavy loads, and aggressive driving can shorten their lifespan. 2. **Spring Lifespan:** Springs generally last longer than shock absorbers and may last the lifetime of the vehicle. However, they can also wear out or break, especially if subjected to heavy use or if the vehicle frequently carries heavy loads. 3. **Maintenance and Replacement History:** If the shock absorbers have been replaced before, it might be documented in the vehicle's maintenance records. Checking these records can provide insight into the history of the parts and whether the shock absorbers have been previously replaced. 4. **Symptoms of Wear:** Symptoms indicating that shock absorbers or springs need replacement include a bouncy or unstable ride, uneven tire wear, leaking fluid from the shock absorbers, and visible sagging of the vehicle. To determine if the shock absorbers have been replaced before, you can: - Check the vehicle’s maintenance records. - Look for aftermarket parts or labels indicating recent replacements. - Ask a mechanic to inspect the condition of the shock absorbers and springs. If you have access to the vehicle's maintenance records and need help interpreting them, feel free to share the details, and I can assist you further.

      Experiencing AdBlue problems with your Mercedes E Class, particularly at 139,000 km, can be frustrating but it's not uncommon. AdBlue systems are designed to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions in diesel engines, but they can sometimes encounter issues. Here are some potential reasons for your problem and possible solutions: 1. **AdBlue Injector Issues**: - The injector can get clogged or malfunction, leading to improper AdBlue dosing. This is a common issue and may require cleaning or replacement. 2. **AdBlue Pump Problems**: - The pump responsible for delivering AdBlue might fail. This could be due to wear and tear, especially at higher mileages like 139,000 km. 3. **AdBlue Quality**: - Using low-quality AdBlue can cause problems. Ensure you are using a certified AdBlue product to avoid contamination and crystallization issues. 4. **Sensor Failures**: - The sensors monitoring the AdBlue system (such as NOx sensors or level sensors) might be faulty. Replacing these sensors can resolve the issue. 5. **Crystallization**: - AdBlue can crystallize if the vehicle is not driven regularly or the system isn't properly maintained, leading to blockages. 6. **Software Issues**: - Sometimes, the issue could be related to the vehicle’s software. Updating the vehicle's software might solve the problem. 7. **Leaks**: - Check for any leaks in the AdBlue tank or lines. Leaks can cause the system to malfunction. ### Steps to Take 1. **Diagnosis**: - Start with a comprehensive diagnostic check to pinpoint the exact issue. Mercedes-Benz dealerships or authorized service centers can perform detailed diagnostics. 2. **Regular Maintenance**: - Ensure regular maintenance of the AdBlue system. This includes checking the injector, pump, and sensors periodically. 3. **Quality AdBlue**: - Always use high-quality AdBlue from reputable sources. 4. **Cleaning**: - If crystallization is suspected, cleaning the AdBlue system components might be necessary. 5. **Professional Repair**: - Consider professional repair services if the problem persists. Replacing faulty parts like injectors, pumps, or sensors may be required. While 139,000 km is a considerable distance, it's not unusual for AdBlue systems to encounter issues at this stage. Regular maintenance and using quality products can help mitigate these problems.

Disconnect the car battery for about 15 minutes to reset the module and then reconnect it. 3. **Check for Software Updates**: - Ensure that your car’s software is up-to-date. Sometimes, software updates can fix underlying issues related to the SOS system. 4. **Inspect Wiring and Connectors**: - Inspect the wiring and connectors related to the SOS system. Look for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections that could cause intermittent faults. 5. **Check the Telematics Control Unit (TCU)**: - The issue might be with the Telematics Control Unit (TCU). Ensure that it is functioning properly and receiving power. 6. **Genuine Parts**: - As noted in your query, using genuine parts is crucial. Ensure that all parts related to the SOS system, including the battery, are genuine BMW parts. Non-genuine parts can sometimes cause compatibility issues. 7. **Clear Fault Codes Properly**: - After performing the above checks, clear the fault codes again using BimmerLink or a similar diagnostic tool. Ensure that the car is in a stable state (not driving or moving) when you clear the codes. 8. **Seek Professional Help**: - If the issue persists after the above steps, it might be necessary to consult a professional. An authorized BMW service center can perform more in-depth diagnostics and repairs. ### Potential Professional Solutions: - **Telematics Control Unit (TCU) Replacement**: If the TCU is faulty, it may need to be replaced. This is often best done by a professional, as it involves coding and programming. - **Software Reflash or Reprogramming**: Sometimes a reflash or complete reprogramming of the vehicle’s software might be required to resolve persistent errors. - **Detailed Diagnostic Scan**: A detailed diagnostic scan with professional-grade equipment can provide more insight into the root cause of the issue, beyond what consumer-grade tools can offer. ### Preventive Measures: - **Regular Maintenance**: Regularly check and maintain the electrical system of your vehicle to prevent such issues. - **Use Genuine Parts**: Always use genuine BMW parts for replacements to ensure compatibility and reliability. By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the SOS call system failure in your BMW 2 Series. If the problem continues, professional diagnosis and repair will likely be necessary.
